ONERA, a central player in aeronautics and space research, employs approximately 2000 people. Placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, it has a budget of 228 million euros, more than half of which comes from commercial contracts. State expert, ONERA prepares the defense of tomorrow, responds to aeronautical challenges and space of the future, and contributes to the competitiveness of the aerospace industry. He masters all disciplines and technologies in the field.
The ONERA-Lille Center hosts 3 technical and scientific units: Experimentation and Flight Limits (Aerodynamic, Aeroelastic and Acoustic Department), Design and Dynamic Resistance (Materials and Structures Department), and Specific Devices and Scale Models (Wind Tunnel Models Engineering Department). It houses a design office and workshops for manufacturing models and specific devices, a laboratory for characterizing and qualifying the dynamic response to the impact of materials and structures (crash tower, air launchers, Hopkinson…), several low-speed wind tunnels and other hydrodynamic means.
