Travel to Munich by Plane
Munich Airport (MUC) is an international airport located about 30 km northeast of Munich. It is a major hub for Lufthansa and Star Alliance partner airlines. Altogether, 100 airlines service more than 240 destinations in over 70 different countries. Other nearby international airports are Stuttgart (STR, approx. 200 km west), Nuremberg (NUE, approx. 160 km north), Innsbruck (INN, approx. 120 km south) and Salzburg (SZG, approx. 120 km east).
Transfer from Munich Airport to the conference site:
- By S-Bahn (commuter train, recommended)
Take line S8 with direction Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) and Herrsching up to Station "Rosenheimer Platz". The journey time is approx. 45 minutes. Costs are 11 EUR single/ 20 EUR partner ticket (latter for a party up to five) when using "Airport-City-Day-Ticket". The "Airport-City-Day-Ticket" is valid for all rides within Munich public transport network (MVV) for the purchase date (till the day after 6am) and might be purchased at the ticket machines at the airport using coins, notes or selected bank cards (credit cards at airport only).
- By rental car
Rental cars are available in the Munich Airport Center located centrally between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Based rental car companies include Avis Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Terstappen Dollar Thrifty.
- By Taxi
Taxi stands are right at the exits of the airport on arrival level. The journey time will be approx. 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Costs are around 60 EUR.
Travel to Munich by Train
Munich Central Station (German: München Hauptbahnhof) is the main railway station of the city of Munich. The mainline station is a terminal station, the respective subterranean S-Bahn (commuter train) and U-Bahn (underground) stations are through stations. Long distance train lines connect Munich to most major German cities e.g. Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Dortmund as well as destinations in France (Strasbourg, Paris), Austria (Salzburg, Vienna, Innsbruck), Italy and Switzerland (Zürich).
- By S-Bahn (commuter train, recommended)
Take any line with direction Ostbahnhof (East Station) and exit at Station "Rosenheimer Platz". The journey time is less than 10 minutes. Costs are 2.50 EUR per person using Einzelfahrkarte (single ride ticket). The ticket might be purchased at the MVV ticket machines near the S-Bahn entrances using coins, notes or selected bank cards (no credit cards). The ticket has to be validated using the stamping machines located at the entrace to the plattform/ on the plattform.
- By Taxi
Taxi stands are at the exits of the station. The journey time will be approx. 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. Costs are around 14 EUR.
